Physical Medicine

Touch is one of the most powerful senses we have.  Physical medicine utilizes this sense to enhance the body’s natural healing processes. There are multiple techniques including muscle stretching, massage, therapeutic exercise and trigger point therapy that can stimulate the body to heal.

Physical medicine can provide immediate relief for some conditions, however it is also used in combination with other therapies and may require multiple visits to fully address the issue.  Part of the goal with using physical medicine as a therapy is to teach you exercises and strategies that you can use at home to enhance your healing.

More specific physical medicine techniques used at Foothills Family Medicine include:

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) – This is a gentle, non-invasive, energy therapy that can have subtle or radical effects. The emphasis of treatment is to encourage and enhance the body’s own self-healing and self-regulating capabilities. CST is a type of physical medicine that uses a hands-on approach to “listen” to your body’s Cranio rhythm and alleviate any restriction that may be present. CST is a powerful yet gentle option that can provide relief and relaxation to patients.

Hydrotherapy – Perhaps one of the most ancient methods of treatment, hydrotherapy uses water in any form to treat illness and maintain health. Some common hydrotherapy methods include immersion baths, fomentations, poultices, saunas, wraps and alternating hot and cold applications. Hydrotherapy is useful in boosting the immune system, relieving pain and helping the body with detoxification.
